Character Creation and Advancement
All this talk of Attributes, Skills and Specialties is nice, but it means nothing if you can't make a character using them. This section goes over the steps necessary to create a character in Saga RPG, as well as how to advance that character as she gains experience.
Creation
So, you have your character sheet ready to go. Once you have a name, concept, and background, here are the steps you need to take to make a character complete:
- Determine attributes - Your character starts with a d4 in each Attribute. You have 15 points to spend on improving them. See the "Attribute Die Cost" table for the cost of each Attribute die.
- Choose Skills - You begin with a rank of 1 die in each Skill, and 14 points with which to improve them. See "Skill Rank Costs" for how to spend those points.
- Choose Specialties - You may choose a number of Specialties based upon the number of Skills you have trained (those in which your rank is 2 or higher) plus 1/4 your Intelligence rating (rounded down). See the "Specialties by Skill Training" table for more information.
- Calculate Vital Statistics - Calculate your Health and Chakra. Your Chakra is equal to 3 + Chakra Use Specialty + 1/2 Focus Attribute. Your Health is equal to 3 + Endruance Skill + 1/2 Vitality Attribute.
- Buy Equipment - You may begin with 1,000 Ducats worth of equipment. For more information, see the chapter on Items.
