Long Absences Make For Many Changes

A quick note to begin: if anyone has been trying to register at Runicfire for, say, the past year and a half, there has been a problem with the automatic registration system which may have resulted in your account not being activated. I am terribly sorry if this has caused anyone inconvenience. I have been a neglectful webmaster, and I apologize. Needless to say, it should be working now, and if anyone has any trouble registering, please email me about it. I will be keeping a closer eyes on my Runicfire email now that I know a handful of people are (gasp!) actually interested in what I have to say!

Or maybe it's just a bunch of spambots. Who knows.

So, I looked at this site today, and realized that the last post I made to this place was over six months ago. Half a year! Without posting a thing! I have been a lax webmaster indeed.

A lot can happen in six months, and much has occurred since last May. I've moved further through school and have begun serious work on two film projects. I've completed my first feature-length script, and have another in the works. I've grown as an artist and a person, in ways a single blog post cannot describe. You may notice that I've changed my bio to say "student filmmaker" instead of "aspiring filmmaker." I figured it was time to stop bullshitting myself: even if it's just cruddy little student films, I am a filmmaker now. There's no hiding from that fact anymore, and the responsibility it brings.

Those are the changes that have happened recently. There's more in the works, and they have some serious ramifications for this website.

Now that I am kicking my attempts to start a career into overdrive, I will be splitting Runicfire.net in two. Runicfire.net proper will become my professional website and eventually the homepage for Runicfire Studios. There I will catalogue my ongoing film projects, and post blog entries focused on the progress of those endeavors and the creative process. I don't expect to incorporate for some time, but it will happen eventually. Another domain will be purchased for my personal blog, and will cover the whole breadth of topics I've addressed here, and more. Some posts, particularly those involving the creative process, will be cross-posted, but I will restrict personal comments to my personal blog.

The reason for this change is that in the coming years I am likely to gain a higher professional profile, and the opinions I express on Runicfire.net may be seen as controversial to some, particularly what I have to say on religion and atheism. I also post a few essays here and there on personal experiences I've had that employers need not know about. While it's entirely possible for a potential employer to seek out my personal as well as professional website, I do not need to help them in that task. There are certain things they simply don't need to know, and I'm not in a hurry to tell them. They'll still be out there: I'm not afraid of who I am or what I've been through, but that's no excuse for imprudence.

This change won't likely take place for another few months. I'm still working on the Runicfire Studios site, and my new personal page is likely to follow afterward. Progress is slow, CSS being the flighty thing it is and Drupal 6 having certain theming oddities, but eventually the transition will be made.

Meanwhile, I will be renewing my commitment to this website. I will, barring hell, high water or finals, post here at least weekly. I will continue to expound upon the creative process, rant about religion, and hopefully—just hopefully—mix in a few more topics. I'm quite excited about the projects I'm working on right now, and I'd like to share what little snippets I can without spoiling the final product.

If anyone is reading this, check back here when you can. Great things are afoot. Come along for the ride!
