On Pharyngula I found this nifty test to determine what kind of atheist you are. As it turns out, I'm a Spiritual Atheist. Which makes sense, because I don't consider myself quite an atheist. But I'm not quite not one either. The funny thing, though, is that Spiritual Atheist is close to the one title I thought of using to describe what I am, which is "Atheistic Spiritualist." Slightly different inflection, I suppose.
I'd like to say more, but I feel like a lot of what I've had to say on this subject has already been said by me, though I think I would soon like to write on morality. I've probably already mentioned a few of my ideas on the subject, but I'd really like to go into the reasoning sometime. The subject is quite thorny, and it's a huge part of Western religions, which is probably why my belief that so-called "morality" is unimportant would annoy quite a few people. It's the compassion that underlies any worthwhile system of morals, not the morals, that matters. All the morals in the world don't mean a thing if you can't be yourself and can't keep in touch with your own compassion. Then morals become nothing but shackles for your soul, and I believe quite often social mores get in the way of people being truly generous, enlightened, compassionate and free.
I'll have more on this over the weekend. I promise this time.
